Nkuringo Walk & Gorilla trekking

Bwindi National Park is an ancient tropical forest which in the past was a continuous forest with the actual Virunga Volcanoes forests. It offers more than the trekkings to see the mountain gorillas. In Bwindi it is possible to take a walk through the forest from North to South and proceed down to Kisoro in the direction of the Virungas. This is called the Nkuringo walk. The same circuit can be done by bicycle which is possible to rent. We propose an itinerary for a full package of 6 days, a real immersion in the nature of the forest, including 2 days of nature walk and 1 day for gorilla trekking.

Day 1 - Entebbe
On your arrival at Entebbe International Airport in Uganda you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred for overnight at either Cassia lodge or Capitol Palace hotel. BB

Day 2 – Kampala – Bwindi Forest (Nkuringo Sector)
Early morning you will be picked up by your driver/guide with whom you will drive Southwards to the Southern sector of Bwindi National Park known as Nkuringo. Nkuringo region is home to over 700 of the world's free roaming population of mountain gorillas that are the primary focus of tourism to the region. However as you travel to this region you will also notice that the region is endowed with the most magnificent scenery and landscapes.
You will have a stopover to see the royal drum makers, then at the Equator where you will be able to stand and be in both hemispheres at once. Lunch will be in Mbarara, the capital town of the Ankole region. As you drive on,you will see the typical acacia savannah and the terraced hills, where the people rear the Ankole cattle with long horns. The transfer is long, about 8 hours. Dinner and overnight in Kisoro at Travellers Hotel. Full Board

Day 3 – Nkuringo Nature Walk
After breakfast at your hotel, the journey and adventure to encounter the tropical forest will start through Lake Mutanda by use on dugout wooden canoes, and get to the other side of the Lake while birding along the way. You will also view the Virunga volcanoes that are both in Uganda and Rwanda. Have a lunch break at the Nkuringo Safari Lodge and thereafter proceed to Rwajenge landing site. The walk will take about 5 hours or more through the hills and local villages of Nkuringo. Dinner and overnight at Nkuringo Gorilla Campsite. Full Board

Day 4 – Nkuringo Nature Walk
After breakfast, the second day of trekking will go through Bwindi Forest National Park up to Buhoma which is the northern part of the forest. Follow the route which has ascents and steep descents passing the rivers Ivy and Kashasha. Expect to arrive in Buhoma by lunch time.
In the afternoon you could have an organized community walk in Buhoma or take the Batwa Pygmies trail in the forest to see and discover the ancient sites of the pygmies. Dinner and overnight at Bwindi Engagi Lodge or Buhoma Community Camp. Full Board

Day 5 - Gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable National forest
On this day you will go gorilla tracking in Bwindi Forest National park; perhaps one of the most exciting wildlife experiences. The activity starts with a briefing from the ranger guides after which you proceed with the trekking. Bwindi forest in Uganda has a population of about 370 gorillas, which is half the world population according to 2007 gorilla population surveys. It is not predictable the time you will spend to encounter the gorillas but it normally takes between 2 – 6 hours. You have an hour to observe the primates and their behaviors, while taking photographs. Do not forget to carry your lunch boxes and water. Return later for dinner and the overnight at Bwindi Engagi Lodge or Buhoma Community Camp. Full Board

Day 6

After breakfast, you drive back to Kampala and transfer to Entebbe International Airport.
